Dead Weight

For over a month now I’ve been dropping dead weight. I’ve been getting rid of the extra pounds on my frame and ditching the negative, unsupportive people in my life.

Last week I used the bod pod for the second time. The results were an improvement, but my 18.6% body fat is still pretty high for an elite distance runner. With the trials in a month I’ve got to be careful and cautious in my quest to lose a couple more pounds. There’s a tricky balance in ingesting enough fuel while limiting any excess. And lets be real, the main goal is to run fast, not look like a 12 year old boy.

The figurative dropping of weight hasn’t been as easy as I hoped, but perhaps even more important than the pounds. I previously let some selfish people enter my inner circle and, unfortunately, it was slowing me down. The truth is, I need to be selfish with my own running and most people struggle to understand and support that. So, now it’s time to do what I do best – compartmentalize, buy a pretty outfit, and kick those people to the curb. The slump is over and there is a lot of work to be done to prepare for the Olympic Trials! Today I even set some new goals to help myself get back on track!

  1. Maybe don't buy a new pretty outfit and instead spend the money on cutting the massive tumor off of your poor dog's neck. You aren't selfish.
